What Playfull does

The streams you listen to while you work end up scattered across bookmarks and tabs: a radio station here, a live channel there, a playlist you keep meaning to save. Playfull keeps them in one list and plays any of them with one click.

Your library

Every stream you save lives in Settings → Library: radio stations, live channels, playlists, podcasts, and direct audio or video files. Each has an on/off switch, and only the ones switched on show in the toolbar panel. A fresh install starts you off with 100 live stations in twelve categories, from public radio and jazz to classical, world music and lo-fi.

The toolbar panel

Click the toolbar icon to open the panel. It has three parts:

  • Now playing: everything Playfull has open, with pause and play, mute, show and close for each.
  • Also playing: other tabs playing sound, if you turn on Other tabs (off by default).
  • Your streams: your enabled streams, in your own order or most recently played first.

The pop-out button in the panel's header opens the same panel in its own small window.

Two ways to play

  • Play plays an audio stream right in the panel, with no window, and it keeps playing after the panel closes.
  • Pop out (the window button) opens a stream in a compact player window with no address bar or tabs. Video and page streams always open this way.

Audio and video files and live streams play in Playfull's own player, with picture in picture for video. Any other address opens as the page itself in the player window.

A count on the toolbar icon

The badge on the icon shows how many things are playing, so a forgotten stream never plays on unnoticed. By default it counts other tabs playing sound too.

Private by design

There's no account, no server and no tracking. Your streams and settings stay in Chrome's storage on your computer, and the only network traffic is the streams you choose to play. Like every URLflows product, it's private, free, forever.
