Control other tabs playing sound

Something is playing and you can't find the tab. Turn on Other tabs and the toolbar panel lists every tab making sound, with controls for each.

Turn it on

  1. Open Settings → Other Tabs.
  2. Turn on List other tabs playing sound in the toolbar panel.
  3. Chrome asks once for permission to read your tabs. It calls this "Read your browsing history". Allow it.

The panel now shows an Also playing list below Now playing. Playfull only uses the permission to show each tab's title and site; nothing is stored beyond the browser session or sent anywhere. Turning the setting off gives the permission back.

What you can do with each tab

  • Pause and play the page's audio and video. A tab you pause from here stays listed, so you can play it again.
  • Mute it.
  • Show it, bringing the tab to the front.
  • Save it to your streams.
  • Close it.

Allowing pause and play on a site

Pausing a page's player runs a tiny script on that page, so each site needs your OK once. Chrome asks the first time you press pause or play there. Mute, show and close need nothing.

Every site you've allowed is listed under Pause and play in Settings → Other Tabs. Remove any one of them, or press Remove every site.

Turn it off

Switch the setting off, or use the Other tabs reset in Settings → Resets, which also gives back every site's pause and play permission.
