Troubleshoot common issues
Most problems come down to a page that was open before you installed, a switch that's off, or a site Chrome hasn't allowed yet.
No Vault tab or outlines on an AI site
- Reload the tab. Pages that were open before you installed or updated don't have the page helper yet.
- Check Settings → Sites: the site may be switched off.
- Check Settings → On AI sites: each part (outlines, Save to vault, the Vault tab) has its own switch.
- On a site you added yourself, Chrome must allow it first. Remove and add the platform again to be asked.
Insert does nothing
Click into the text box first, so the page knows where to put the text, then pick the item. Some editors block text put in by an extension; press Copy and paste instead. Chrome's own pages and the Chrome Web Store are off limits to every extension.
Shortcodes don't turn into emoji
- Check that Turn emoji shortcodes into emoji is on under Settings → On AI sites.
- Outside AI sites, shortcodes only work with Shortcodes on every site switched on and allowed.
- Type the whole shortcode, colons included, exactly as it's saved under Settings → Emoji.
Rewrite me isn't available
Chrome's built-in AI needs Chrome on a desktop computer with enough free space and memory, and a one-time download. Open Settings → Rewrite me, press Download the model, then Check again. Other Chromium browsers may not include it; use Copy my style as instructions with any other AI instead.
The keyboard shortcut doesn't work
Another extension may hold Ctrl+Shift+Y. Open chrome://extensions/shortcuts and set a different one for Noggin.
Still stuck?
Use Tell Us Something at the bottom of any page on this site.
