Core How-Tos
Keep your emoji and shortcodes
Keep the emoji you use with what each one means when you send it, so the team's 🫡 and 👀 mean the same thing to everyone, and type any of them with a shortcode.
Add your emoji
- Open Settings → Emoji.
- Press Add a starter set to begin with a handful, or New emoji to add one.
- Give each one a meaning and a shortcode, such as
:salute:.
Each emoji keeps a usage count and the date you last used it. Sort by Most used, Recently used or A to Z.
Type a shortcode
In a prompt box on an AI site, type the shortcode and it turns into the emoji as you finish typing it. Shortcodes look only at the few characters before the cursor; nothing you type is kept or sent anywhere.
Shortcodes on every site
To use shortcodes in email, chat, docs and forms too, switch on Settings → On AI sites → Shortcodes on every site, not just AI sites. Chrome asks you to allow the extension on every site first; only the shortcode part runs there. Switch it off and it stops at once. To take the permission back too, use the extension's Details page in Chrome.
One click away
Your emoji sit in a row at the top of the toolbar panel and the Vault tab, each with its shortcode underneath. Click one to insert it.
