Privacy & permissions

Noggin has no server and no account. Your vault, its history and your settings stay in Chrome's storage on your computer, and nothing is sent anywhere.

Nothing is collected

No accounts: there's nothing to sign up for.
No servers of ours: the extension has no backend to send anything to.
No analytics or tracking of any kind.

What it reads, and where it stays

Your vault and settings: in Chrome's local extension storage (chrome.storage.local) on this computer.
On AI sites: the page helper compares what you've sent with your vault inside the page. Nothing it reads leaves your browser.
Emoji shortcodes: look only at the few characters before the cursor.
Rewrite me: runs on Chrome's built-in AI on your computer, never on a server. Chrome downloads that model itself, once.

What the permissions are for

The built-in AI sites (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Copilot, Perplexity, Grok, Le Chat, DeepSeek, Poe): so the page helper can run there. This is the install warning.
Storage: your vault and settings.
Context menus: the right-click items.
Active tab and Scripting: insert an item into the page you're on when you ask.
Clipboard write: copy an item. It never reads your clipboard.
Side panel: open the panel beside the page.
Other sites (optional): only a site you add yourself, once you allow it, and every site only if you switch on emoji shortcodes everywhere and allow it.

Removing your data

Use Settings → Resets → Reset all settings, or remove the extension from chrome://extensions, which deletes everything it stored. Export a backup first if you want to keep your vault.

If you remove the extension

When you remove Noggin from Chrome, Chrome opens a short feedback form in a new tab. Answering is optional, and you can just close the tab. The extension sends nothing to the form: the form's link only says which extension you removed. The form is hosted by Airtable, so anything you type there goes to Airtable and to us, under Airtable's privacy policy.
