Themes, light and dark
Appearance sets how the toolbar panel, the settings page and the vault beside AI sites look, and where the toolbar icon opens the panel.
Pick a theme
Open Settings → Appearance and choose under Theme: the family's Dark (the default) and Light, then seasonal and holiday themes. The sun and moon button beside the product name switches between Light and the last dark theme you used.
Panel, side panel or window
Under Toolbar icon opens, choose whether clicking the icon opens the panel under it, Chrome's side panel beside the page, or its own window. Whichever you pick, the panel's header has buttons for the other two.
Animation
Animation in the toolbar panel lets snowfall, falling leaves, spring petals or summer fireflies drift across the panel. Match the theme picks one for a season or holiday theme, and nothing for the others. It's off by default, and always off when your computer is set to reduce motion.
Reset it
Settings → Resets → Appearance puts back the default theme, turns the animation off, and sets the toolbar icon to open the panel under it.
