Show the Page Guide

The Page Guide attaches to the bottom of the Jira Notes & Guidance pad and tells you what the page you're standing on is for — the standard practice for that page, in that flavor of project, without leaving the board to go and look it up.

Turn it on

Switch on Show Page Guide under Settings → Page Guide. It appears below your notes in the same pad, so there's still only one panel on your screen. It travels with the pad wherever you dock or drag it.

How it knows where you are

The guide works out two things from the page you're on: which Jira page — backlog, board, timeline, reports, releases, dashboard, issues, queues, forms, goals, plans, calendar, code, deployments, your work and the rest — and which flavor of project you're in: Scrum, Kanban, business, service management or product discovery.

It then shows the practice message for that combination, under a heading naming exactly where you are — for example “Backlog Guide for SCRUM on TEAM-MANAGED”.

Always on show

The message itself is visible whenever the pad is open — the practice is in front of you rather than a click away. Only the longer More information explainer is folded until you ask for it.

Under More information, each page also links out to Atlassian's own public article on the topic — Backlogs, Kanban boards, Burndown charts, Sprint planning, Release management, Cumulative flow diagrams and so on — so the guidance can stay short and hand off to the source.

It's reference, not a second notepad

The guide is read-only material. Anything you want to write down goes in the notes above it, which is where your typing is saved and synced.

Make it say what your team says

Under Settings → Page Guide → Guidance you can rewrite the wording for any page to match your team's ways of working — useful when your definition of ready, your backlog refinement rules or your release process don't match the textbook.

You can also switch the guide off for individual pages, so it only speaks up where it's actually useful. Reset this section restores the shipped wording for everything on the page without touching your themes, overrides or notes.
