Back up & restore your settings

Once you've tuned your theme, hover style, celebrations, Page Guide wording and per-board overrides, it's worth keeping a copy — so a new laptop or a fresh browser profile is a thirty-second job rather than a re-run of every choice you made.

Export a backup

  1. Open the URLflows for Jira settings and go to Backup & Restore.
  2. Click ⬇ Export settings….
  3. Save the dated JSON file somewhere you'll find it again.

What's in the file

A single JSON file holding every setting the extension keeps — and your notes:

  • Subtasks — whether they're shown, your sort order, the subtask text size and colour, your per-board overrides, and the floating button corner.
  • Appearance — your theme (including any you've recoloured or built), your light/dark pair, the hover-highlight style, the pad text size, and the Hide Rovo Chat toggle.
  • Jira Notes & Guidance — your notes and the pad's position.
  • Page Guide — your rewritten guidance for any page, and which pages it's switched off for.
  • Your access — whether the section is shown.
  • Celebrations — when they fire, which statuses count, and the animation you picked.

It's a plain text file describing your preferences and your own writing. It holds nothing about your Jira issues, boards, or account — the extension never stores those.

Restore on another browser

  1. Install URLflows for Jira on the new browser.
  2. Open its settings and go to Backup & Restore.
  3. Click Choose backup file… and pick your JSON file.

You'll be asked to confirm before anything is replaced, and told plainly if the file isn't a URLflows backup. Any Jira tabs you already have open update straight away — no reload needed.

Restoring replaces, it doesn't merge. Importing a backup overwrites the settings currently on that browser rather than combining the two. If the current settings are worth keeping, export them first.

When to take one

  • Before switching to a new machine or browser profile.
  • Once your Page Guide wording has settled into something your team actually uses.
  • Before experimenting with settings you might want to undo in one step.

Reset one section, or all of them

You don't have to restore a backup just to undo one area. Every settings page ends with a Reset this section card that puts only that page back to how it ships — so you can start your theme over without losing your Page Guide wording, or clear your per-board overrides without touching anything else.

Backup & Restore adds Reset everything for all of them at once. Each reset asks first and says exactly what it will clear.

Two things are never reset:

  • Your Jira Notes — that's your writing, not a setting. Clear those from the pad's bin button if you want them gone.
  • The statuses discovered from your boards — otherwise the celebration checkboxes would sit empty until you'd browsed every board again.
