Troubleshoot common issues
Most surprises come from pages Chrome keeps extensions out of, or from limits Chrome puts on what an extension can do. Here's how to tell which.
A tool does nothing on this page
- You're on a restricted page. Chrome blocks extensions on
chrome://pages, the Chrome Web Store and other internal pages, so the page tools can't run there. - The tab predates the install or an update. The extension starts itself on tabs that were already open, but if a tool still doesn't respond, reload the tab.
- The tool is switched off. Check Settings → Tools → Toolbar panel.
A grab won't paste
When a page can't reach the clipboard, the grab is saved as a file instead — look in your Downloads folder. Also check Settings → Tools → Screen grabs: if it's set to save a file only, nothing is copied.
The full page grab looks wrong
Some pages scroll inside a panel rather than the page itself, or load more content as you scroll. Scroll to the part you want and use Screen grab or Selection area grab instead.
Chrome says the browser is being debugged
That bar appears while HAR file for support records, and for a few seconds while Console errors records. It goes when the recording stops. If you dismiss the bar yourself, a HAR recording stops without saving, so start it again.
Ask AI isn't available
Chrome's on-device model needs at least 22 GB free on the drive and a graphics card with more than 4 GB of memory, or 16 GB of memory and 4 processor cores. Settings → Advanced shows whether the model is ready. Your company may also turn Chrome's on-device AI off by policy.
The pop-up blocker doesn't list every exception
Chrome doesn't let an extension list every pop-up exception you've set, and an extension can only undo the exceptions it added itself. Use Every site's pop-up setting in the view for the rest. An ad blocker or another extension can block pop-ups too — check Extensions.
An extension can't be switched off
Extensions your company installs show under Installed by your company with their switch locked. Only your IT team can change those.
An incognito window is missing from Open windows
Incognito windows only show when the extension is allowed in incognito: open chrome://extensions, choose Details on Browser Quick Fix Kit, and switch on Allow in Incognito.
