Dim the page & warm the colour

Two sliders do the everyday work: one darkens the bright white page, the other warms its colour toward amber. Both apply live, so you can find a comfortable level in a few seconds.

Open the controls

Open any document at docs.google.com and click the Docs Dimmer toolbar icon. The popup holds the dimming slider, the warmth slider, the dark-mode toggle, and the reset button.

Use the dimming slider

  • Drag the Dimming slider to the right to darken the page; drag it left to brighten it back up.
  • The change is applied immediately, with no reload — so you can watch the page settle and stop where it feels right.
  • Maximum dimming is capped just short of fully black, so the page always stays readable.

Use the warmth slider

  • Drag the Warmth slider to shift the colour temperature toward a gentle amber — the same idea as a night-light, to cut blue-light glare.
  • Warmth and dimming stack: a little of each is often more comfortable than a lot of either on its own.
  • Leave warmth at zero if you only want to darken the page without changing its colour.

Your settings stick

Whatever you set is saved and synced across your Chrome profile, so the same comfortable level follows you to your next document and your other signed-in computers. To start over, see Pause it & reset to defaults.
