Choose which editors are affected
Maybe you want your documents dimmed but your spreadsheets left bright. The Apply to selector lets you pick which of Docs, Sheets, and Slides get the effect.
Pick your editors
In the Docs Dimmer popup, the Apply to selector lists the three Google editors:
- Docs — documents at
docs.google.com/document. - Sheets — spreadsheets at
docs.google.com/spreadsheets. - Slides — presentations at
docs.google.com/presentation.
All three are on by default. Untick any you'd rather leave untouched, and the effect stops applying there while staying active on the others.
How the active editor is detected
Docs, Sheets, and Slides all live under docs.google.com, so a single content script covers all three. Docs Dimmer reads the page's URL path to tell which editor you're in, then checks it against your Apply to choices — if that editor is ticked, the overlay is applied; if not, the page is left exactly as Google renders it.
Where it runs at all
Docs Dimmer only ever runs on docs.google.com. On every other site — including other Google products like Gmail or Drive — it does nothing, regardless of your Apply to settings.
