Core How-Tos
Trim stray spaces and mask sensitive details
Two checks run on every copy, both on from the start: one for blank space at the start or end, one for details you probably shouldn't be pasting.
Stray spaces
A copy that starts or ends with spaces, tabs or line breaks shows them on its card, marked and described, with a Trim button that takes them off. On the newest card, the clipboard is trimmed too, so Ctrl+V pastes it trimmed. Or skip the button: Alt+V pastes the newest copy trimmed, Alt+Shift+V trimmed as plain text.
To turn it off, clear Point out blank space at the start or end in Settings → Copying. That also turns off Alt+V.
Sensitive details
Copy:Paste+ looks for:
- Card numbers (ones that pass the standard check digit test)
- Email addresses and phone numbers
- US Social Security and UK National Insurance numbers
- IP addresses
- Postal addresses, and the names set out with them
- Access keys and tokens
A copy holding any of them shows them masked on its card, in red, with a warning naming what was found. Show reveals them on that card; Mask masks the copy itself, and the clipboard for the newest card, so Ctrl+V pastes it masked. Your clipboard is never changed unless you ask. With the cards off, the warning still shows at the foot of the page.
To turn it off, clear Warn about and mask sensitive information in Settings → Copying.
From the right-click menu
In a text box, right-click and choose Paste the newest copy, trimmed or Paste the newest copy, sensitive information masked. See Use the right-click menu.
