Privacy & permissions

Copy:Paste+ has no server and no account. It never reads your clipboard, keeps your copies in the browser's memory only, and sends nothing anywhere.

Nothing is collected

  • No accounts: there's nothing to sign up for.
  • No servers of ours: the extension has no backend to send anything to.
  • No analytics or tracking of any kind.

Your clipboard is never read

Paste cleanup works on what the browser has already put in the page. A copy is kept as it was made (what the page wrote into the copy, or else the selection), with the address and title of the page it came from, so the window and cards can show and paste it.

What's stored, and for how long

  • Copies: in the browser's memory only (chrome.storage.session), never on disk. An unpinned copy is deleted when its card closes, a tab's recent copies go when it closes or loads a new page, and everything is gone when Chrome closes.
  • Screen grabs: on the clipboard, and in a file if you choose; a small thumbnail stays with its card, in memory only.
  • Settings: in Chrome's local extension storage on this computer.

To show a site's icon on a card, the extension fetches that site's own icon, without cookies. No other server is contacted.

What the permissions are for

  • Access to all sites: see pastes into editors and copies on the pages you use, to clean them and show them.
  • Scripting: add its page scripts to tabs that were already open when you installed or updated it, as you switch to them.
  • Context menus: the right-click items.
  • Storage: your settings, and your copies in memory.
  • Desktop capture (optional, asked for only when you first grab a whole screen or window): Chrome's screen picker.

Chrome's own pages and the Chrome Web Store stay off limits to extensions.

Removing your data

Close Chrome to clear every copy. Use Settings → Resets → Reset all settings to clear your settings, or remove the extension from chrome://extensions, which deletes everything it stored.

If you remove the extension

When you remove Copy:Paste+ from Chrome, Chrome opens a short feedback form in a new tab. Answering is optional, and you can just close the tab. The extension sends nothing to the form: the form's link only says which extension you removed. The form is hosted by Airtable, so anything you type there goes to Airtable and to us, under Airtable's privacy policy.
