Core How-Tos
Record a HAR file for support
When a site fails in a way that's hard to describe, a HAR file shows support exactly what your browser sent and received. HAR file for support records one, without opening DevTools.
Record it
- Open the page with the problem.
- Click the Browser Quick Fix Kit icon, then HAR file for support under Support.
- Press Start recording. A banner stays on the page while it records, and Chrome shows its own bar saying the browser is being debugged.
- Reproduce the problem in the same tab: click the button that fails, submit the form, load the page that breaks.
- Open the panel again and press Stop and save.
The file goes to your Downloads folder, with a summary of what it holds. Changed your mind? Cancel recording stops without saving anything.
Why Chrome shows a debugging bar
Chrome only lets an extension see a tab's network traffic through its debugger. Browser Quick Fix Kit attaches it to that one tab while you record, and detaches it when you stop or cancel. Chrome's bar is there so you always know it's happening.
Share it carefully
A HAR file can contain personal data: the pages you opened, what you typed into forms, and the cookies and tokens that keep you signed in. Send it only to the support team that asked for it, through their own ticket or upload, and don't post it anywhere public.
To keep it small and focused, record only as long as it takes to show the problem.
