Getting Started
Install Docs Dimmer
Add the extension to Chrome, pin it, and open any Google Doc, Sheet, or Slide — then dial the page down to a level that's easy on your eyes. It's free, forever.
1. Install from the Chrome Web Store
Docs Dimmer is a focused Chrome extension.
- Open the Docs Dimmer listing on the Chrome Web Store (or search Docs Dimmer in the store).
- Click Add to Chrome, then confirm the permissions prompt.
- Because it comes from the Chrome Web Store, it installs the same way in Chromium browsers — Edge, Brave, Opera, Arc, and Vivaldi — where the button reads "Add to Edge", "Add to Brave", and so on.
2. Pin it for quick access
Pinning keeps the popup — where the sliders, dark-mode toggle, and reset live — one click away:
- Click the puzzle-piece Extensions icon in your browser toolbar.
- Find Docs Dimmer in the list and pin it so its icon stays visible.
3. Open a document and adjust
That's it — there's no sign-in and no account to create. Open any document at docs.google.com, click the Docs Dimmer toolbar icon, and slide the page down to a comfortable level. Your settings sync across your Chrome profile and apply live, with no reload.
