Pause it & reset to defaults

Need the page bright for a moment, or want to start fresh? The on/off toggle pauses the effect without losing your settings, and reset returns everything to sensible defaults.

Pause the effect

Open the Docs Dimmer by URLflows popup and use the on/off toggle to switch the effect off instantly — handy when you need to see the page at full brightness, match a color, or check exactly how something looks. Your dimming, warmth, dark-mode, and editor choices are all kept, so flipping it back on restores the same look you had before. There's no need to uninstall.

Reset to defaults

The Reset button returns the controls to sensible defaults:

  • Dimming and warmth go back to their starting levels.
  • Dark mode is turned off.
  • All four targets — Docs, Sheets, Slides, and embedded calendars — are switched back on.

It's the quickest way to undo a lot of fiddling and start tuning again from a clean slate.

Customize the extension's colors

Docs Dimmer's own theme — the toolbar panel and the settings page — is set under Settings → Appearance. It doesn't change how your documents are dimmed. The Customize card there edits the theme you're using, with four colors — Background, Text, Buttons and Button text — a preview, and a readability line that warns when text drops below 4.5:1 (you can still save). The other colors — muted text, borders, hover and error — are worked out from those four so they stay readable.

Save to Customized saves your version under a Customized group in the theme picker and switches to it; the original never changes. Use the original colors puts the original's colors back in the editor, and Delete this version removes yours, so the original takes over. Backups include your customized themes. To clear them, use the Customized themes row in Settings → Resets, or Reset all.

Where your settings live

Your settings are stored in your browser and synced across your Chrome profile, so the on/off state and your levels follow you between documents and signed-in computers. Nothing is sent to a server — see Privacy & permissions for the details.
